Mobile treatment system for digestate, slurry, and slaughterhouse wastewater

Biogas plants and animal husbandry operations are facing increasing costs for the disposal and transport of liquid digestate and slurry. This system treats the wastewater on-site, separating it into clean permeate and a nutrient-rich concentrate. The permeate can be discharged, used for irrigation, or as utility water, and the concentrate can be used as fertilizer. The volume that needs to be transported is significantly reduced.

The entire system is mounted on a trailer. It is delivered, connected, and put into operation. Foundations, buildings, or permits for permanent installations are not required.

PROCESS
1. Pre-separation: equalization tank, peristaltic pump, two cyclones for the removal of sand and heavy solids

2. Ozone oxidation reactor: oxidative decomposition of the organic load with ozone directly in the water stream
3. Lamella separator: separation of coarse suspended solids
4. Microflotation (DAF): separation of suspended particles with microbubbles and ozone
5. Multi-layer filter: fine separation before the membrane stage
6. Reverse osmosis: open-channel modules with parallel spacers, up to 70 bar, very fouling-tolerant. The RO concentrate is returned to the DAF.

RESULTS FROM PILOT OPERATION (Evaluation by the Fraunhofer Institute)

Biogas digestate (decanter):
- COD: over 20,000 mg/l in the influent, 12 mg/l in the permeate
- Total nitrogen: 4,800 mg/l in the influent, 25 mg/l in the permeate
- N removal: 99%

Slaughterhouse wastewater:
- COD: over 20,000 mg/l in the influent, 26 mg/l in the permeate
- Total nitrogen: 2,750 mg/l in the influent, 120 mg/l in the permeate
- N removal: 95%

Pig slurry (separated):
- COD: over 20,000 mg/l in the influent, 34 mg/l in the permeate
- Total nitrogen: 2,500 mg/l in the influent, 180 mg/l in the permeate
- N removal: 91%

The values are from pilot operation and laboratory validation. We will determine the performance for your wastewater after a water analysis, and we can also offer an on-site trial run.
